Venkat2, it is impossible for mythical stories to be 'rational and logical', be it Sarabeswarar or something else. If we want it that way we might as well throw everything out starting with great epics. I agree with you some stories may h…

Venkat2, my humble stance is that 'sthala puranam' and history can be totally unrelated. The basic problem in our times is that there is only ONE way of understanding everything - that is if it historically/literally happened, the opposite…

Thank you Kathy for the beautiful picture. Two other pictures of Perur sculptures are very famous, that of Kaali in the last stages of dance competition with Shiva, the dual look of shyness and anger on her face, second is Shiva again as 'Bi…

VEnkat2, I have heard it, the temple at Perur, coimbatore has two wonderful sculptures of the Shiva-Parvati dance competition. Parvati's scultpure shows anger if you see it on one side and shyness if you see it on another. Malathi

Venkat2, whatever little I know from my grandmother, Narasimha's anger was not appeased even after killing Hiranya so Parvati or Shiva decided to confront the lion (not exactly Vishnu). I agree with what you say that many stories may have been…

Venkat I don't disagree that Sambandar and Appar had jains impaled. They lived in diferent times. There are things we can accept about those times and things that we cannot. Forget even about Sambandar and Appar if you look at the gory exploits…

Venkat II, very well said tht both versions are not in league with the original beauty of hindu thought. As far as Vaishavites take 'offence' at depiction of mal in sculptures etc, that somehow to me adds up to what Mal means to the perso…

If we really believe in being open minded we should not call iyengars participating in shiva worship as 'generosity' in any way. The correlation of iyers/iyengars to shaivites/vaishavities is tied down to casteism - like Venkat said Linga…

I don't want to comment on Kalaignar much. Kamal, now yes, he tries to innovte, bring new ideas/thoughts into movies. He is by no means a mature intellectual, only seems to try often times in half baked ways. In our hero worshipping culture m…

Gift of the Magi is a heartwarming, evergreen tale. Pete's Tavern in NYC, where the author wrote it (or got the idea) is a nice place (pub) to visit if you are an O Henry fan.

It was a potboiler Rahul and we can like it or trash it. BTW, it was not as much rubbish as you think, if you look at the painting the person next to Jesus does look like a woman. Nobody really knows.
