Living Chola Temples
  • Dear Sir / Madam
Further to our earlier correspondence dated 12 aug 2004 We find that two more chola temples are now privileged as World Heritage Sites.
We are grateful at the same time concerned that during the amendments The site has dropped the name of the greatest Chola Kings RajaRaja Chola I who was the builder of the Thanjavur Brahadeswara temple and an inspiration to his son Rajendra I to build the Gankai konda hola puram temple.

Earlier your site had mentioned RajaRaja Chola I as the founder of the Chola dynasty which we requested you to amend ,(see attached mail below)Unfortunately the name of this Great king is now missing in the UNESCO site.

Rajaraja Chola the Great built this temple between 1004 to 1010.It would be unfortunate not to have him mentioned as the king who built the Thanjavur Brihadiswara temple on the millenium of his glorious achievement.

May we humbly request you to look into this please.

We would also at the same note request you to grant us permission to hyperlink the UNESCO site on The Bigtemple to the new site we are building for the great temple

    Many thanks

    yours sincerely

    Subject: errors on Chola History

    Dear Sir/Madam,
We would like to bring to your notice the error in the document on the
Brahadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur on the your UNESCO website
    http://whc.unesco.org/pg.cfm?cid=31&id_site=250

In the information it states that the temple was built by Rajaraja
Chola founder of the chola kingdom. This information is wrong.

The Chola kings ruled that part of Tamil nadu from the Sangam period
50BC to 400 AD and declined in power.

It was revived in 8th Century by Vijayalaya Chola who founded the
mediaval Chola and ruled from Thanjavur.
He was Suceeded by Aditha Chola
Paranthaka Chola I who donated the Golded roof to the the Chidambaram
    Temple
Followed by Gandiratthitha Chola who was suceeded by PranthakaChola II
    Rajaraja was his son.......

All the names mentioned above are historical facts....It is true
Rajaraja took the empire to great heights followed by the zenith of the
empire under his son Rajendra's Rule but he is not the founder of the
    dynasty.

That would be distortion of history

We would be Grateful if this could be amended by removing
the....founder of the chola kingdom phrase
It is indeed a great privilage for any tamilian to see tamil art and heritage acknowledged to its value but at the same time it would also be the correct information.
We will be very grateful if you could kindly augment the correction and changes
    Thanking you Sir

    yours sincerely
