Is It right that Uttama Gold Coin is the earliest Chola piece available so far?
The inscriptions - based on which Amarar Kalki has written his Magnum opus - Ponniyin Selvan - is put in the Photos Section.
Those who are interested in knowing more about AK's murder - please note down the inscriptions and try to find finer meaning for every single word used in the inscription.
We will be able to discuss more on this once some clarity is in sight.
hi all there is a legend that all chola coins were confisicated and molten by the pandyas. when the pandyas seeking revenge for the destruction of their land by cholas,( after waiting for 2 centuries) captured chola land all traces of chola culture were eradicated in a systematic manner.buildings and coinage bore the brunt. temples were left alone. as well as buildings of literary importance.
so that could be one reason why we do not find many chola coins.
I have a silver uttama chola coin one side it bears "uttama chola" in devanagari script. At the back side, we have two tigers, fish and a bow (? ) I will scan and post here. May be I can show it to some of our team members during a next meet.
