About ten years back, Actress Laxmi discussed ART FILMs and COMMERCIAL FILMs in detail. She is Fit-Person becos of her performance in Silanerangalil Sila manithargar & there are several commercial ones where she had done very well. The theme she discussed was : WHAT IS THE USE OF ART (FILM) IF DOES NOT REACH THE MASSES. This view is embedded in my memory deeply.
What is the Use - Role - Purpose of a LITERATURE if does not reach the MASSES ? Whenever Carnatic music was discussed - critics used to mention - this was meant for PATTUPPUDAVAI and VAIRATHODUs .. Recall Kamal (KB Sir's) dialogues in Unnal Mudiym Thambi or Suhasini's versions in Sindhubairavi (KB Sir again !).
We feel proud of our Native Land - Chera - Chozha - Pandya Naadu ! We cherish that we belong to such Great Heritage !
Kalki is very much sucessful in making us feel this way with a sense of Belonging ... How many other Literatures have made us feel ?
If PS is not a literature - and if a Literature need to be devoid of vivid descriptions .. it is time we take a look at Literature as well ..
