Dear All looks like we all have gone into a period of silence after the Heritage discussions
my two cents worth The Govt should preserve heritage buildings...a good example is the old GH a building with lot of history and heritage ....it should have been renovated and preserved and the new multistory built elsewhere but its primeland so what do they do bring 300 years of histrory down....
We had discusions about promotors bringing them down and owners selling them...
Lets be realistic not everyone is Birlas to donate their manor as a museuem...most of the houses with history of the freedom struggle have allmoved on or run down if your family is facing a financial crisis where cmes the question of preserving heritage....
I remember reading somewhere Bharathis granddaughter was selling her first class tickets(free as a next of kin of freedom fighter and poet) because of poverty!!
As SPS put it nicely where will the promotors go for land??
unfortuantely we have a taboo in madras....we will only throng to busy areas...We dont think of moving into satellite townships with all the infra structure..
Imagine a satellite town in Poonamalle or Manali well connected with trains with all the amaenities of madras and the option of fresh air....Do you think people will take it...they would still prefer the congested madras..
If you take Delhi theres Gurgaon,Noida,Faridabad all within 40-50 miles radius and are already becoming 2nd tier cities....of their own accord
Unfortunately that concept hasnt caught up here yet...Chengleput should be promoted Mammallapuram should be promoted....
Imagine a Keralastyle waterway from mammalapuram to Madras wont the IT corridor prefere to stay there if they can get into town in 45 minutes....
