Sri Parvathi Devi during her Avataar as a Cow, performed Pooja to Lord Shiva with Ghee from this Temple's Well, called "Neikoobam". From this, the village is called "Neikuppai". Due to a curse to SUN GOD, HE Prayed Lord Siva here.
The Sun Rays directly fall on the Siva Lingam naturally and perform Aarthi for 3 days a year - Tamil Aavani 19, 20 & 21. This is a "DHOSHA PARIHAARA PUNYA STHALAM". .
