Rajaraja ruled in between 985 and 1014 AD. Tanjore was his capital. It would be great to discuss places and events of importance in indian history as well as world history. It would be interesting to observe how many of these places survive today and are of importance.
TAMILNADU CHENNAI certainly did not exist during that period under that name. it existed in bits and pieces however mylapore, thiruvanmiyur, thiruvotriyur had been mentioned in devarams 200-300 years before RRC. the next mention is by Marco polo 300 years later. Marco Polo's travels also contain references to Mylapore and the practices of observing certain unlucky hours everyday, during which all normal activity is suspended. Of course a lot of RRC's edicts are in the neighbourhood.
MADURAI Good old Madurai existed during RRC's period as his territory. it continues to wield importance in tamilnadu's politics.
TRICHY woaraiyur a part of today's trichy was the ancient chola capital. perhaps its other name KOLI gave them their name. atleast they called themselves Koli vendan.
Kumbakonam, chidambaram were of importance then .pazhayarai was waning.
> CHOZHINGA (Chozha Ganga )NALLUR - MADIPAKKAM THENUPUREESWARAR (EVEN > PATTEESWARAM SIVA IS NAMED AS THENU PUREESWARAR) - Thiruvalidhayam > etc.
Chozinga Nallur - do we have any old templer here? I used to think in what way its related to cholas.
And SPS, you are doing this mistake a second time. Its not Madipakkam, but Madambakkam where the Thenupureeswarar temple is situated. We have uttama chola inscriptions here. Madipakkam where i live do not have any old temples. Legend says that an ancient temple was here. I remember a siva lingam laying alone under a tree near the Madipakkam Bus terminus and legend says that there was an old temple. A few years back a new temple was constructed on the same place where the lingam was present. Ootheeswarar a vedapureeswarar is the presiding diety.
