Hi thiruvanmiyur in the south east of chennai metropolis is a very old town. it is reported tha valmiki himself spent his last days here and perhaps the only valmiki temple in the country is here( right in the middle of ecr) the temple has devarams sung about it in 8th century ad.
today when i went to the temple i noticed a different thing. those familiar with the temple kow the shtala viruksham is the vann maram situated on a raised platform called vannimedai. on the platfor are many naga as well as ganesh statues. also in the south west corner there is a statue that is distinctively non hindu in charecter. either mahavira or buddha or the thithankaras is my guess. i shall photo graph it next week and load it. but my question to the professinal archeologists in the group is has this statue been studied earlier? sriraman sir. can you go and have a look? venketesh
