first its worthwile examining how kalki became a writer in the first place
3 incidents happened almost within a gap of a year ( 1920-21) in kalki's life to tell him clearly that his chosen path was writing.
1. kalki saw rabindranath tagore in trichy. when kalki was living on subsistence levels as a student with the funding of 20 rupees or so every month sent( with great difficulty) by his brother from the village , he heard that tagore was holding a meeting in trichy, and those who paid the princely sum of 5 rupees would be allowed to see him. the amount was for shanthiniketan fund. kalki had read a lot of authors but not tagore but tagore was already a nobel laureate and mahatma gandhi himself had called him " gurudev" so kalki decided to go penniless for a few days. he sat by the path that tagore took and even touched the poet's white silken robe. this was the first incident that made kalki realise the fame a person could attain by writing. (kalki in later years would compare mahakavi bharathi unfavourably with rabindranath, but thats a different story) the second incident happened in jail...... venketesh
