Remembering MSS
  • Thanks to Malathi for the wonderful link "A Special Tribute To
    M.S.Subbulakshmi On Her Birthday"

    http://www.tlca.com/adults/new-mss/index.html

    >Gandhiji, once said, I would rather hear "Hari Tuma Haro" spoken by
    Subbulakshmi than sung by another.

    >Tears welled up in Mahatma Gandhi's eyes as Subbulakshmi sang
Vaishnava janato tere kahiye, jo pir parayi jane re ''To sing a bhajan
is one thing, but to sing it by losing oneself in god is another,''
    Gandhiji said.

    >President Abdul Kalam, a fan of MS, flew from the capital; penned a
Tamil poem in tribute during his flight. He stood transfixed for a few
minutes, barely controlling his tears. One great thing MS did for this
country is to give us this rich music to make us into good human
beings.MS was born to music, she lived as music and finally merged
with the god of music, the President said after laying a wreath.

    >She gave a statement that I would like to repeat. Any raga (she said)
has the purpose of directing the minds of the listeners toward God and
His manifestations. When she passed away, I was in her house and felt
    spiritual peace." said Kalam.
