freinds, im quoting from a book compiled by oxford university. michael wood is one of the authors. kochengannan is a sangam age cholan. his period is cannot be exactly pinned to a year. he worshiped nataraja at chidambaram as per periya puranam. the adhi moola nathar shrine in chidambaram is said to have ante- dated nataraja cult. the dheekshidhars say adhi-moola nathar shrine must have been there for a century prior to nataraja cult. thiru-moolar has not portrayed chidambaram in his book. karaikal- ammayar also has skipped chidambaram. thiruvalangadu sabai is only rathnasabai-that is a lesser importance than kanaka sabai.why chidambaram is ignored by these two people?
here near chidambaram is pichavaram(pithar-vanam). the mangaroves here are the sthala virutcham of this great temple. that is it is not exactly not a tree but a plant like slender creeper. there the indigenous people (coastal veddoids) say nataraja belong to their clan. if so nataraja is a aborigine and the aboriginal cult of dancing in the burrial ground became a ritual.the ritual later amalgamated with linga cult already existing in chidambaram. however thes are pre-historic events must have happened in 2000BC.
chidambaram is only about 30 km from poombuhar. the sangam age cholas cannot have ignored this statergic place even from militiary point of view. because it is a frontier town on the bank of kollidam.
still chidambaram is not getting due place in sangam literature!
the sangam age chidambaram is for certain reasons is being hidden from public eye!!
