Kaalamugam, Pasupadham, Maaviradham, Kaabaligam are a few of the inner-sects of Saivam. Siva was worshipped as PASUPATHI (Head of all the living beings). This sect, following the Doctorines of Laguleesar is known as Naguleesa or Laguleesa.
They were also known as Maheswaras. They worshipped Pasupathy and Lingas; Siva and Sivaganas. Gnana was highly revered. Siva taught Gnana to Guru, Thatheesi, Agasthiar and Upamanyu as VAGEESA - "teaching Gnana!" In the 7th Century, Urithira pal(multiple) ganathar, Maavirathigal, Brahmins, Saivar, Pasupathar, Kapaligars lived as portraited by Appar: " ARUMANITHADAM POONMULAI ARAMBAIYARODU ARULIPPAADIYAR URIMAYIRTROZHUVAR URUTHIRA PALGANATHAR VIRISADAI VIRADHIKAL ANDHANAR SAIVAR PASUPADHAR KAPALIGAL THERUVINIR POLIYUNTH THIRUVARUR"
FOUR Faces, third eye on each face, Lotus in hand, Akshamalai, Suvadi, on Lotus peetam - left leg folded and right touching ground with four hands is the description of Vageesar.
(It is not Brahma - having three faces, but Siva having four faces)
"Thrinethram Chadurpujam Devam Padhmaraga Samathyudhim // Varadhabayadham saiva soolabadharamkarai "
Rajaraja's Easanapandhithar - Rajendra's Sarvasiva pandithar and the Commander-in-chief of Rajadithan Srivallaban later known as Saduranan were Laguleesas (as per Thiruvottiyur - Chennai - inscriptions).
There are Mahadevars having five faces in the Vimanam of Rajarajesaram. Four faces on the four directions and the fifth above the front face!
We will start writing on Rajarajesaram - a kind of Digest - shortly.
There are some contradictory points regarding the files scan-9A and 9B (Pon vimaanam of periya kovil)
1. 'Thakkayaagap parani' was sung on Rajaraja-II by Otta koothar. So, the word 'Seeraasaraaseecharam' here should refer to Darasuram temple. (Airaavadheeswarar temple was also called as Rajarajeswaram)
2. Chidambaram kovilukkup pon kuurai veyndhadhu Paranthagan-I. Kulothungan-II did some other renovations later. So, Kulothungan-II should have done something similar to Rajarajeswaram and not the pon vimaanam.
3. According to Dr.Kalaikkovan, 'Karuvoor puraanam' was sung just 2-3 centuries ago and is nothing but a 'Sthala puraanam'. It has no relationship with Karuvoor thevar. So, it cannot be taken as an evidence.
4. Any idea about how Chidambaram temple was saved from invasions while periya kovil and others got affected?
