  • Dear members,

We all know that Ravidasan and his allies were deported from Chola empire after inquiry on Adithya brutal murder. They were compelled to go out Chola empire with empty hands and it is believed that they have settled in Palakad and nearby areas.

Is it possible to conclude the present Palakadu Tamilians  are decedents of Ravidasan and his allies?

I request the members to inform their views without hurting any body;s feeling  and with the objective to in-depth understanding of the history.
  • Dear Dr. Kailsam,

Re Palakkad Tamils - there have been discussions in our Archieves and extensive links have been provided from Malabar Manual.

Malabar Manual deals with the Kshatriyas - Nairs and Malabar Brahmins including Brahmins of Kerala province.

Ravidasan & his brothers - enjoyed higher official positions respectively in Uthama and Pandya Kingdoms after Adithakarikala murder.

You will be able to find details related to Veeranarayapuram and the settlement around it.

It was formed during Parantaka I (say about 910 AD - Adithakarikala murder took place in about 969 AD). Parantaka I maried Kokkizhanadigal - Siva Devotee - who constructed Thirunavalur (Sundrar fame) temple -south east of Viluppuram.

He also married Veera Narayanai (Veeranarayapuram - Veeranam - Veeranarayana Perumal temple) are named after Her. Veera Narayani was a Princess (might be Trivancore - Southern coastal) of Malayalam origin.

Recall the title of Parantka I :: " Mathiraiyum Eezhamum konda parakesari .. " Parakesari who conquored Madurai and Eezham - as early in 910 - 920 AD.

Geographically his alliance with Chera - particularly around Trivandrum area - was singnificant and strategical.

During Peace times - Veeranam was escavated (PS reference ) and Kerala Brahmin settlements were created around Veeranarayaperumal.
Likewise Royal settlements were also created nearby Udayarkudi.

Kshatriya - Brahmincal wedlocks were also promoted in the pastwhich paved way for Brahma-Kshatriyas.

Brahma Kshatriyas practised more of War-related methods than Vedhic methods.

When seeing Ravidasan and his brother held higher positions - they should have been more of Commandos type or Manthric type as Kalki depicted.

After Adithakarikalan murder - after UIthama period too - that powerful lobby - should have been moved out by Rajaraja.

We should look for more political weavings into the whole episode than Caste !

AK Murder is again widely discussed repeatedly.

    regards/ sps
