statue of rajarajan
  • Dear all

its nice to see more activity.

Just a quick question in the wake of the pillar which was the last to see rajaraja and gokuls mail on how no statue of rajaraja is found inside periyakoil.

on the kodikambam in front of brahanaayakis temple there is a statue of a king with his hands held in worship and facing the avudayar i have heard people say it is rajaraja....

Like wise on the main corridor to the moolavar on the rightside there is a sivaparvathi bronze statues(urchava moorthis) and opposite to them is a bronze statue of Rajaraja again seen as worshipping the idols.....

Which age do this both belong to...I find it hard to digest that someone in a later age placed them because if they have where are their statues??/

    any thoughts

Brihannayaki temple was a later addition. The concept of building a
separate shrine for female godesses started only after Kulothunga I.
So whenever you see a goddess shrine as a separate unit you can
straight away conclude that it is a later addition.

This could not be rajaraja - atleast there is no proof
  • Dear Gokul
The statue I am talking is not in Brahanayakis temple but on the kodikambam between the andhi and moolavar in front of brahanayaki..

Has anyone noticed this statue at all...and the bronze statue....
I think it would be worth a look

The stone one If its not rajaraja who is it..if it is rajaraja it begs the question when was it erected?

as far as the bronze one it is labelled rajaraj if anyone has seen it you will understand
