Citizens of Rajaraja & Rajendra Empires
  • Dear Doctor,

    Surprising, but there is some kind of similarity in our thoughts at a
    given point of time, I suppose. I was thinking : Why are we NOT
    discussing much about the common-people of the past? We are talking
    so much about the Emperors and the Queens only. I thought so when I
    wrote about the fellow - who desired to incorporate old inscriptions
    during Sundarapandia's period.

    I will collect more details on them and post. I shall also look for
    details pertaining to Health care...

    Imagine Kulothunga's Commander: Some one similar to Peria
    pazhuvettarayar.. He was observing Vrudham for about a mandalam (48
    days) and re-erected a mandapam SIVAPADA SEKARA MANGALATHU
    Mandapathil UDAYAR SRI RAJARAJA DEVAR EZHUNDARULI ... which was
    delapilated after Rajendra's period "

    We are supposed to assume that in the particular Mandapam, Rajaraja
    just came and sat there (Ezhundaruli)! So it becomes revered? So,
    Rajendra's commander accredits significance? So it is redone by a
    Commander of subsequent King - after observing Vridham?

    What kind of people are they? Why should they adore a third
    Generation Emperor?

    Pls re-Read Gokul's mail. A Panchayat Board President is thrilled to
    get the audience of the Emperor Rajaraja - lights two perpetual
    lamps - one for his Welfare - in his native village after returning!

    Pls. re-Read Mr. Srihari's mail: Kalki is exactly picturising the
    Traders' request with the (would-be) King on sea-piracy! He has
    picturised Seenathu Vanigargal also. Therefore, there should be
    materials available on Kudanthai Vaithiar also. Sundara Chozhan
    Aadura Salai should also have prompted him to write on these lines.

    There is a Panchavanmadevi's maid servant offering 6 gold flowers to
    Thiruppugalur Appar icon;
    There is a Pandia lady offering a perpetual lamp in Udayarkudi -
    after AK's murder - during Uthama's period ;
    There is a moovenda velalan seeking permission from Uthama (when he
    is in Kanchi Palace)to escavate a separate irrigation canal from the
    public lake to the lands he had donated to the temple of
    Vijayamanagalam - which the King Uthama - was pleased to grant!

    I remember to have read a Book written by Dr.Thirumalai - ASI -
    detailing on the people of Chozha Kingdom. I shall post more details.

    Fondly, SB
