The Lord was already in MUNRIL - Front yard !! Thus it was interpreted as NIRMALYAM - not fit to keeping for Worship - as we do not worship mutilated images !
Since the Divyadesam was known as CHITRAKOODAM - the Object was interpreted as PAADAGAM - kind of Painting - which was the process in those days !!
Such images of Rama, Krishna, Lord lying over Snake etc., were kept for worship as could be seen from the Prabandhas..
