Vaikunta Ekadasi is one the important and auspicious days to the Hindus. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It occurs in the Hindu calendar, in the month of Markazhi (Between December and January). On this day, the Swarga Vaasal, 'The Gates of Heaven' are believed to be kept open. The area encircling the sanctum is referred to Swarga Vaasal and devotees throng to gain entry into the temple, to seek the Lord. Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple Srirangam Vaikunta Ekadashi celebrations is performed with Swarga Vaasal sevai But in Kumbakonam , there is no Swarga Vaasal festival. Because the Lord Sarangapani temple itself is a “Boolaga Vaigundam”. So, here a special tharshan is performed on the entire day with “Moothankai Sevai”. This is the speciality of Kumbakonam Divyadesam.
