you spend new year in annan koil? i spend mine in neighbouring thirukadaiyur. this year went there with tsunami supplies. actually i spend every pournami in chidambaram and thirukadaiyur. dec 26 was one when we crossed pondy there were rumours of an earthquake. families wanted us back in chennai with immidiete effect. but then we decided that since it was nadaraja's charriot festival we would just see him in the road and get back but the dikshithars hearing of the earthquake pulled the charriot with super speed and nadaraja was safely within the campus by noon itself. normally he gets in by 3.30
(the main charriot pullers come from killai a village near pichavaram. they were in chidambaram when their houses were washed away.not a life lost there .)
so we proceeded to thirukadaiyur( 20 km before kariakal) the temple was filled with refugees. many who had lost relatives. but seeing the tragedy in reality is 100 times worse than t.v ( and we thought t.v gives us disturbing scenes in the drawing room) 4 days later went back for new year. arather sober new year.
