Hi I had a trip to devakottai in chettinaad on 15-16 th. as a result some 150 books printed between 1897-1940 have come into my possession. some rare editions of jeevaka sinthamani( 1890) auvudaiyar koil puranam ( 1903) included.
also one cookery book printed in 1895.some of them are in excellent condition. dear chandra and Uma- 3 books of suddhananda barathi also were in that trove.
dear V.K I need your help to assess the usefulness of the books.
i was in particular fascinated by the temple puranams. almost all major temples had a full puranam written in verse. we have very few in hand. mainly major temples like madurai, thiruvannamalai etc, in this set i got the puranams of auvudaiyar koil, thirupunavasal( the biggest lingam among thevaram shrines ) and even uppur. uppur veyil ukantha vinayakar temple was established by Rama in legend on the way to lanka. now its a minor temple. I have asked people to search in specific for more temple puranams.
