an evening to remember in mamallapuram
  • refer to my prev post on dr nagaswamy's article

we forced ourselves to go and see the inscriptions mentioned in the
article at the tiger cave ( just b4 you enter mahabs - most people
    skip this).....

the first cave was an excellant one, but due rains water had
collected in the basin - but could not force us out, we shed our
shoes and waded through and grooped our way to get some really great
pictures of the caves. the second one was more easily
approachable.....it has inscriptions carved on both
sides ......sadly the innner scultures of somaskandar were only
barely visbile...but still shone in their classic shapes...we had
goose pimples when i read out the lines from the translations of sri
    nagaswamy's article...

"The king Atyantakama, who was conquered all his foes and also known
as Ranajaya, has caused this temple to be made."

ATYANTAKAMA, a king of unlimited fancies

as long as the sun and moon exist, this temple exists and as long as
that exists people shall read his name....we were doing exactly that
reading it 1300 years after he had it inscribed.
