I had the same doubt when I Read Vengaiin Mainthan...but there aren't any evidence both to the fact he was ekapathiniviradan or he had more than one wife.. When discussing among friends one thought was the second woman in his life is Manimegalai who he uses to befreind nandhini and save Aditha karikalan initially who finally gives her life for his love.... In ponniyin selvan he ends with the statement..you wont see the chirpy ,cheeky vandiyadevan anymore..he will be more composed and mature..and Manimekaladeivam will be with him forever...
So that could be the other woman.

Though i'm not that good in history, i had read PS quite a number of times that i could recall Vandiya's romantic thoughts other than Kundavai, like when he first saw Manimegalai, he was thinking of asking Kandamaran abt her (though he considers her as his sister, after Maran says abt his plans of her engagment with some royal person). Then he meets Kundavai and falls completely for her (as the plan of Karikal had worked well). He feels somewhat attracted towards Nandini, but recovers himself from that feeling. Later when he meets Poonguzhali, he starts his romantic talks (in his dreams) only to keep himself restrained by reminding of her nature and that she was born for Sendhan. I think Kalki would have wanted to show him as more human than anyother character in PS, mainly Arumozhi. What we had/are/will be discussing are mostly Kalki's point of view, and not the sole truth. Hence, we can't come to a conclusion.
As for as the 2nd wife of Vandiya, i'm not aware as i haven't yet read Vengaiyin Maindan. But, i think he could have even mentioned about Vandiya's job, as Vandiya is a kind of person to boost about his job being his first wife, if you could catch what i'm trying to say ;)
