Two Japanese professors visit Gurukulam in Vedaranyam

    HOLY PLACE: Takimoto Yuzo and Tomohisa Imanishi worshipping a Lord Buddha statue at Pushpavanam village near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday.

    NAGAPATTINAM: Two professors -- Takimoto Yuzo from Kyoto Royal University of Music and Tomohisa Imanishi from Otoman University at Kyoto _ who are on a tour here on Wednesday visited the Kasthurba Gandhi Kanya Gurukulam, founded by the late freedom fighter Sardar Vedaratnam at Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district.

    The professors appreciated the services rendered by the Gurukulam for the uplift of the downtrodden girls in rural areas from pre-independence era by Sardar Vedaratnam and his son Padma Shri V.Appakutti.

    A.Vedaratnam, managing trustee of the Gurukulam and grandson of Sardar Vedaratnam, explained the growth of the institution from its inception and the achievements of the students both in academic and cultural activities.

    They praised the non-conventional energy facility of gobar gas plant at the Gurukulam. The Gurukulam has used cow dung and human excreta for the plant for nearly five decades. They also donated Rs. 1 lakh to the Gurukulam for its development. The professors participated in the annual festival of Lord Vedaranyeswarar temple. They visited Pushpavanam village near Vedaranyam and worshiped the Lord Buddha statue that was at the trunk of a big banyan tree.
