HONOURING ORDERS AS PER OLD INSCRIPTIONS
  • Dear,

We were discussing about Chozhas & Pandyas.

Sembianmadevi renovated Thirukkodikka temple. There pre-existed 26
inscriptions. During Uthama's 11th yr, she renovated and re-
inscripted all the 26 - quoting : IDHIVUM ORU PAZHANKALVETTU!
They belonged to Elango Mutharayar, Nirubadungavarman, Varaguna
Pandian, Parantaka I, Kandradithan , Arinjaya and
Sundara. "Ithevarudaya padigal munbu dharmathukku vaithu karkalil
vettikindanthavai" . These are recorded to retain earlier practice -
dharmam - including what was practised during Mutharayas & Pandias
    period!

Sundara Pandia's inscription in Sikhanatha Swami temple Kudimiyamalai
(Near Pudukkottai) says: ".. Munnalil .. kalvettu padiyeduthapadiye
aatrooran ponnan kangeyan kelvettu vetta vendumendru solla, Swasthi
shree Kulothunga chozha devarku yaandu 35 vadhu ... " That is Sundara
Pandia's inscription dated 8.12.1218 speaks of the practices invoked
by Kulothunga I (his arch rival!) in 1105 AD and continues his Dharma!

Similarly Sundara Pandya honours another Dharma of Parantaka I's
Commander Kunjaramallan invoked in the year 940 AD in the same
temple - continues the practice even after 280 years!

These Kings were able to keep political enemity and Public Welfare
well apart! Such is the Greatness of our Emperors in the past!

    Fondly, SB
