"" An Example in Chola history for this duel:After losing a battle Salukya Someswaran sent a letter inviting Virarajendran, son of RJC for a duel, with soldiers mentioning the venue, Koodal Sangamam, (riverside of Tungabadra) on 10th September, Monday, 1067. Virarajendran accepted Someswaran's invitation and went there. But Someswaran didnot turnout even after a month from the date he mentioned.. Chakravarthi Thirumagan also makes us recall Ponniyinselvan @ Arumozhi and we all know how interesting it is to recall the scenes described by Kalki - between Yanaippagan & Vandhiathevan !!
Re the REFERENCE given by our respected Viswakseanan ( new members - Viswaksenan was formerly with Kalki magazine for nearly 30 years before retirement !! and he authored & published History fictions ) - i have to draw reference to interaction with our learned member Gokul - re Cherankottai and Kaandhalurchalai !!
In the 3rd yr of RRC inscriptions - prior to Meykeerthi Thirumagalpola figured - " KANDHALURCHALAI KALAMARUTHARULIYA " or " SALAIKALAMARUTHA " words figured - which have been well discussed by various Historians / Scholars including KAN Sastry, Pandarathar, Vinagampillai and others.
More or less it has been agreed that Kandhalursalai was a Naval Acadmy - closer to Trivandrum - almost pointed towards present Vizhingnam - and it was opined that RRC destroyed the naval warships in a ferotious battle !! Such episode continued during RjC and subsequent Chola Rulers' period too... KAN wrote these details about 60 years back.
However - recently (in the past 10 years) another view is being putforth !!
Conquering " Kandhalurchalai " was like getting a Heavy Weight Champion Title and RRC acquired such RECOGNITION by Winning the Nominee of Kandhalur Martial Arts Academy in his 3rd year and RjC too acquired similar Title..
It may not be acquiring SIMPLE TITLE ALONE, but Gaining Control over certain issues / provinces...
and obviously such Title is conferred after Dwandha Yuddham only !!
anyhow more study needs to be done to substantiate this view point.
