    Kanu pandigai is the 3rd day of the
    pongal pandigai series. This falls on the mattu pongal day.Pongal Festival is
    very traditional one in Kumbakonam area. The Thai(Tamil Month) festival was
    celebrated in Sarangapani Temple. On the Pongal day , the Thai Ther(Car
    Festival) was celebrated . The next day was Kanu Festival. On that day, (ie,
    the next day of Pongal) the Kanu thirumanjanam ( Abisheham) and Kanu Pongal was
    conducted in this temple. Kanu Festival means that the variety of rices mixed
    with sweets and other vegitables and put in into the banana leaf/tamarine leaf
    with sugarcane pieces. In the sarangapani temple, all the Goddess of  Perumal  came to Sarangapani temple and celebrate the
    festival on that particular day. Ie, Gomalavalli Thayar (Sarangapani Swami) ,
    Vijayavalli Thayar (Chakrapani swami), Sita Thayar (Ramaswamy), Rukmini Thayar
    (Krishnan).
