I read in Ananda Vikatan that Mr. Sujatha has penned '3 hour long thiraikaddai' for Ponniyinselvan. He also has said that he discussed this with Director Mani ratnam and hopes that one day it will have its first day as tamil cinema.

A couple of years back, writer Balakumaran's daughter's wedding took place in New woodlands, Chennai, which was well attended by all the leading film personalities including Sujatha (Rangarajan), Mani Rathnam, Director Shankar .. apart from Rajnikanth.
I had the opportunity to talk to Sujatha on several things including PS and Shankar joined us. He was not aware of PS in detail, but suggested that Mani Rathnam might have done some home work. Sujatha promised to carry it forward .. Within a fortnight he had health issues ... Through common friends in the media, the subject has been kept alive..
Then the announcements came for production of two serials on PS for TV.. I opined to a team that instead of both concentrating on PS, one can stick to PS and other can look for the events of 971 - 985 or 971 - 1012 AD. But unfortunately both the teams have dropped the idea. That is how Sujatha is ready with the screen play. During Kalki's centenary, Government has nationalised his works there by Copy right issues ceased. Earlier MGR had the copyright for PS!
The characterisations of Kundhavai - Nandhini were apt for Padhmini - Vaijaynthimala period; Subsequently Sridevi - Jayapradha. Currently Meena - Ramya K (aware of other combines also). It should NOT become too late as the image we have on these characters should not be affected so as to make us prefer to have our imaginations retained than to see wrong versions in the silver screen!
Re the Black Sunday, we have been seeing and reading enough on the media .. PS is the real diversion from such night-mares ..
