Thirumular, in one of his first 10 Thirumanthirams, praises Lord Shiva as 'Nakkan' ..I remember few words..Pakkam ninraar ariyatha paramanai..devargal 'Nakkan' ena ethidum nathanai.
This may be worth a consderation.
What does this 'Marayan' denote? I guess, eve Rajendhra, held a name Panchavan Marayan, when he invaded Chalukya kindgom.
