Karunagara Thondaiman, the so called Thalapathi and Chief Minister of Kulottunga-1 is a Vaishnavite as per Ku. Balasubramaniam. (in his book 'Karunakara Thodaiman.) The Avaippulavar Jayamkondar in Kalingattup Parani equates him with Tirumal.
There is an incription in Simhachalam Narasimha Temple - Karunagara Acharya, Thalapathi of Chola donated ornaments to Sri Varaha Narasimha. The incription mentions also that the endowment is placed under the protection of the vaishnava community of the place, a fact which is repeated in every subsequent incription.Incriptions gives the pugal prasastis to Kulottunga-1. This incription is the first incription in Tamil in this Kalinga Region dated back 1097 AD. (S.I.I - VI - 1144)
