Discussion could be on the authors description and comparisons
second on the charector contrasts itself
  • Sir,

Nandini's has actually become a legend due to the strong characterization by Kalki. For Kundhavai's character everybody reading the book will fall in love with her.

    about the other characters.

    Poonguzhali and Vanadhi PS
both the characters have been given due importance by the author. Though i have a doubt about Poonguzhali's character. When Poonguzhali rescues take PS and VD Kalki would have written as if Poonguzhali and PS has fallen in love, as VD himself would say to Kundhavai while in Pathal sirai in the 3 part. May be Kalki had a intention to
    tie Poonguzhali and PS??
was it dicussed before in the group?

    Yavana Rani and Poovazhagi Yavanarani
Poovazhagi does not stand a chance aginst Yavana Rani as i think unlike Kalki Chandilyan is little biased about his characters. (this goes to all his books as the heroes of his books will be a demi god with super human characteristics).

    Kathyayini and Avanthika Thirumalai thirudan
    Vamsathara and Vinayini Vamsathara
    Rohini and Arulmozhi Vengaiyin Mainthan

    Kanchanadevi and manjazhaki Kadal Pura

Poonjolai and Emily Ratham ore niram

  • Hi Sri

why dont you start. especially on punkuzhali with her delusions and
self talking. visualising marsh gas flares as her lovers.

........and killing a cheeta with just bare hands and a shark bone

    venketesh
  • Dear Venkat
    Sorry have been busy...
Poonguzhali in strict terms can be called a manic depressive pshchotic...One on the same nte she also represents Kalki's passion for trying to explore the inner pshyche of the Female mind...

Sivakami..in SS.Seetha..AlaiOsai....cant remember the name of the charector in Thyagabhoomi but they all had complex personalitues with mood swings and changes.

One the same note Poonguzhali was also a very hopeless romantic who turns very sensible and practical

    Theres more
  • Hi Sri

    there you are

I always felt a little uncomfy with kalki's female charecters (used to
wonder why?)but you have identified one common thread.
I strongly beleive charecters in novels come out of the author's real
life experiences than out of the churnings of an inner creativity.

pungkuzhali retains her razor sharp toungue and mis anthropism(?) till
the end. we can see her normal only in the last few chapters.

do you remember. at one point in tha last few chapters she expresses
her life long loyalty to nandini because of her resemblance to oomai
    rani.

and now that we are on the subject. please do analyse the rest of the
    female charecters of ps too.
  • Hi,

I was just wondering, isnt Poonguzhali the confident, strong, practical, adpatable and being the most down to earth of all. or is this all weak traits.

She was not sure where her actual feelings were in the first couple of chapters and hence her ramblings were portrayed. Also the way she is portrayed, we may feel that she has some screws uncorked on the top side.. but the underlying point was her feeling of finding security & causing insecurity in the minds of unknown individuals.

Just another point of view, trying to turn the things around.. oops its my weakness to find unargueable points to argue against.. :)
