Dear SPS I beg to differ on our Govt's interest in water management system..Not only cant they think but they also destroy what is there already in the name of mordernisation.
Madras had a waterway canal from Stanley MC to Mahabalipuram what happened to it...Imagine how romantic it would be to go to mallai in the moonlight in a cruise and feast your eyes on the pallava marvel on a full moonlight???
Madras also had an extensive waterway linking Coovum Adyar stanley viaduct and buckingham canal....
imagine how it would ease traffic and congestion but what has happened to them....Seweage dump...roads and ofcourse the new MRTS...
so not only can we not innovate but we estroy what was therer before

Hi
the water way that you are talking about is wonderful once you cross say a third of the distance to mahabs. it has been dredged and looks great.people travelling on the ecr can see it from the toll booth onwards no joking .infact its so suitable for a moonlight cruise. ( muttukaadu to mahabs) but since a lot of habitations are springing up on both sides of the canal , how long it will remain so is a doubt.
I guess you are referring to the Buckingham Canal. This was a motorable canal, infact transporting goods through to Thiruvanmiyur, taramani and places down south once upon a long lost time.. If I can find references, I will post it it in the groups
