Hi Ventakesh, One thing I find very interesting is the use of "roasted maize" in PS and "maize dosa's" in Parthiban Kanavu. Many food scientists tell me that maize was imported maybe 5 centuries ago and not earlier:) But we have been growing maize all along. "Cholam" anyone:) Deeps
- Hi Deepa you have encountered the first mistake due to translation
cholam( jowar, sorghum species) is different from makka cholam(maize)
maize a native of south america spread with the spanish.
on the other hand cholam a native of africa and south asia went to the usa with the african slaves.
for your makka cholam is called kempu jola in kannada and cholam is called jola( i remember you telling us you were more proficient in kannada)
but you are right in doubting. if the translator has used the word maize he was wrong. could haved used tha actual word or millets or even corn as it is called in some parts.
