  • dear sps
    is anabhayan not kulothungan 1?
  • Dear SPS
    great as usual.
Recently I have gone through Sundarar's ThEvaaram on Sri Sailam (Swamy in Srisailam is Paruppathanathar as called by both Appar and Sundarar) .
He has described the details of Paruppathamalai beutifully and still it is the same as it is.
There were similar instances everywhere in ThEvaaram, only we will have go through very deeply into that.
  • Hi
    parvatham means hill.
there is another paadal petra sthalam called nila parvatham in the
    himalayas.
some how srisailam( in andra) and kedar, nila parvatham( in
himalayas) and kailas( in tibet) are all grouped as vada naadu.

  • Dear SPS and Venkatesh,
Yes. I know the link between Srisailam and TVMarudur. But where is Where is Thiruppudai Maruthur situated? Please let me know and I will visit the place.

Srisailam : As Venkatesh said, Sundarar might not have visited Sri Sailam. But his descriptions on Peacocks and Deers dancing on the way to Hill shrine were beutiful. Sundarar has not described Paruppatha Nathar (Mallikaarjuna Swamy) but Apparpiraan did. All his (Sundarar's) ten poems on Srisailam on its natural beuty only. (It is a surprise one, because he would not leave the place without describing his Friend).

Srisailam is also one of eighteen Sakthi Peetam and it is said that here Shiva started the life of human being by creating Sakthi. SHE is behind HIM. Also it is said that Arjuna got pasupaathaasthra here from HIM after a fight. Sanscrit Poet Bharavi wrote Kiritaarjuniam, a great epic work here, it is said. 'Kanchipuram was mentioned in his work as best of learned cities. (PurusEshu Vishnu, NagarEshu Kaanchi..........)

Kumara Gupta's (one of last kings of Great Guptas) daughter stayed here long time and like our AndaaL, she surrended herself to Malligaarjunswamy and got married to Him. There is also a great connection with western ghat (after Chickmagalur in Karnataka) tribes to Swamy here. They treat Him as their son-in-law and every year for Mahasivaraathri, thousands of people throng Sivasailam and stay there for a night. Swamy, as said by SPS, is jyotirlingam and every one can go inside and put their head on Him. Absolutely there is no restriction between Him and His adiyaars.

    Hi Dhiwaker
i referred. its near amba samudram in tirunelveli district

    >
    > Srisailam is also one of eighteen Sakthi Peetam

i think sakthi's neck fell here after the rudra tandavam

    > it is said that Arjuna got pasupaathaasthra

devaram says he got it in thiruvetkalam near chidambaram

my reference book says maruda maram seems to be called as arjuna
maram also. so it could be responsible for the name.since
thiruvidamaruthur, thiru pudai maruthur and srisailam are called
    arjuna sthalams.
  • You have performed AbhishEkam. Great. Actually AbishEkam waters are being brought out from PaataaLa Ganga, that is Krishna River in down streams. Even today, the Lingayats wear around their necks, the Linga stones obtained from the bed of the Pathalaganga at Srisailam, preserving them in little caskets made of wood or silver.

Adhi Sankara stayed here for some time and described Mallikarjunaswamy in his 'Sivaananda Lahari' and also in 'Dwadasa Linga stothra'. He also sang Goddess Brahmaraambika in his Brahmarambika Ashtaka.

I visited Sri Sailam many times

    Dhivakar.
