In all my earlier readings - its Paranthaka who donated the Gold for Chidambaram - pon vimanam.
Now i have an interesting thread which states that in tiruttondar tiruvanthathi (poem number 65 and 82) Aditya Cholan ( 871-907 - immd predecessor of parantaka ) is credited with bringing Kongu gold to Chidambaram. Can anyone check and collaborate this info.
chidambaram has always been connected with gold. legends of a king bathing in sivaganga and coming out with a golden halo, the swarna bairavar changing a copper coin daily night for the dhikshithars into gold etc
should check devarams for reference( they were before the cholas) and thiruvisaipa( by kandaraditha chola ) for mentions to gold roof. i think kandaraditya mentions it.
