a friend of mine mentions about some RRC inscriptions in above temple
interested to know more about Thirukattupalli, heard the shiva temple there is a padal petra stalam ( sambandar)..also some legends associated with sandstroms hittings chola country and the queen taking refuge there etc.
there are two shrines with that name. kila thirukaattupalli near thirvengadu on the north side of kaveri. melai thirukaattupalli is what you are talking about. its nearer thiruvaiyaru, tanjore etc. kudamuruti river is formed here after a split'
the sandstorm legend is about uraiyur. a chola king with a wife in two places. uraiyur and kattupalli. one in uraiyur takes the flowers meant for shiva for her treses. whereas the one at thirkatupalli gives it to th idol. so the entire capital city of uraiyur is destroyed in a sand storm due to a curse
there seems to be a link with aditya solan and a jain settlement.
