Education in ancient days in Tamialnadu .. 01
  • hi sps sir,

My grandfather was village headman - he was handy in kal, arikal
vaipaadu as well, my dad did too ( he was never maniam though, as
thatha migrated to chennai)...but now a days even for the smallest
of calculations ( though we did learn the tables) we are reaching
for calculators....those days it was manakanakku and vaipaadu..am
still baffled by the fracions though.
  • Well, in my first exposure to computer (Data General Nova series with 16
K memory and teletype I/O) the assembly programme was to be punched on a
paper tape and without editing facilities. I had to be very careful not
to make a single mistake, as the paper tape got punched as soon as a
character was typed. Now, most of us (there are exceptions of course)
cannot enter a single word without spelling mistakes or missed
characters. We are careless because we have excellent editing back up.
If backspace and erase commands are removed, our productivity will fall
    drastically.

Moral: If 'first time right' is the motto, then no retraction must be
    allowed.
