ASI organises photo contest for students on monuments

    HANJAVUR: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has organised a
    photo exhibition at the Big Temple here to celebrate the World
    Heritage Week from November 19 to 25.

    Photos of the Big Temple and other monuments in Thanjavur district,
    Perambalur district, Mamallapuram and Gingee fort have been displayed
    at the exhibition. Pictures showing the condition of monuments before
    and after renovation and conservation are also exhibited.

    According to a press release issued here by Sathyabhama Bhadreenath,
    Superintending Archaeologist, ASI, Chennai circle, a similar photo
    exhibition has been organised at Mammalapuram also.

    A photo competition "Monumental heritage as viewed by you" or
    "Heritage monuments through your eyes," with a short note justifying
    the photograph would also be conducted at Mamallapuram and Big Temple
    here.

    The competition would be open to students.

    Those interested should register their names with the ASI, Chennai
    Circle, Fort St. George, Chennai by e-mail at asichen@dataone.in or in
    the phone number 044-25670397 or 25670396 or at the Office of the
    Senior Conservation Assistant, ASI, Mamallapuram, phone: 27442226 or
    Office of the Senior Conservation Assistant, ASI, Thanjavur, phone:
    04362-230826 by November 20.

    The photographs should be taken between November 21 and 23 at any time
    either during day or night.

    The photographs should be handed over to the ASI by November 23.

    Three best photographs will be selected through a jury of eminent
    photographers.

    They will be awarded with a prize during the valedictory on November
    25, said the press release.

    Yesterday I visited big temple and this expo. This expo is located in the
    mandapam infront of the murugan temple, where the pulikaal munivar statue is
    there. It contains some 4-5 photos of big temple 2-3 photos of mallai and
    GKC. It was not much attractive so I didnt take photos! The ASI has shown
    its "karumithanam" on this heritage week celebration too...
