freinds, to continue with my chidambaram observations, it is not only kochengannan incident but several other reasons.
the velli-ambalam of madurai is constructed in the model of pon- ambalam as per thiruvilayadal puranam. so kanagasabai is prior to madurai sabai. why we should not infer that other sabais...rathna,thamira,chitra sabais followed port-sabai model.
in thirumandhiram the term chit-ambaram is used only in a metaphorical manner. thillai is the prior name of chidambaram. still prior it was known as perum-potra-puliyoor( one among several puliyoors in cuddalore district.
PRESENT DAY CHIDAMBARAM IS THE GATE WAY OF TANJORE DELTA. from thondai mandalam one can enter kaveri delta through chidambaram easily. therefore it always must have been an important town. from poombuhar also one can go to kancheepuram only via chidambaram.
yet why this important town both by religious angle and political- military angle does not get due place in sangam literature?
if velliambalam of madurai is a sangam age pandiyan structure -then why not ponnambalam a sangam age cholan structure?
why should we conclude sangam cholas were not saivites. their constructions could have been destroyed by kalabrahs.
the aboriginals of pithar-vanam(pichavaram) are an important anthropological sample who could solve the anthropomorphic natarajar origins.
i will be glad to discuss issues in these lines gandhi
Hi we have had many discussions on dating of manikavasagar.if he was prior to the devaram trio his songs about chidambaram must predate them.the bulk of his songs are not about auvudayar koil but about chidambaram.
also thiru moolar talks about the legend of alchemy( base metal changing into gold) in chidambaram.

sitrambalam is one of the 5 sabhas within the temple. it slowly evolved to mean the whole town itself. there is a puli pakkam even in chingelpet. wherever vygrapathar worshipped is called puliyur thillai is perhaps a plant. mostly the mangrove plant of pichavaram. there is a sculpture of it in chidambaram temple. other names of chidambaram include pundarikapuram.
