Reading sri ganapathy stapathi's indian sculpture and iconography. He mentions in the introduction about silpis responsible for mallai: kevada peruntacchan, tacchan gunamallan, paiamizhiappan and abhajan. Can anybody throw more light on this. Where do we find their names and in which monuments.
> Got it clarified with Swaminathan sir....but some questions arise. your views > > These names are inscribed on a stone tub (Nondi-kurdirai thotti) in a village to the south of Mallai. It is called Poonjeri. Many take as the names of the Mallai silpis. But why should these be inscribed in a place outside Mallai? This is not clear.
its just a question of interpretation. i would interpret it as the owners of the stone tub- possibly the owners of the lame horse too.
i remember a joke a politician, a statistician and a professor of logic travel in a train in ireland and see thro the window a black cow the politician said - all cows in iresland are black the statistician says at least one cow in ireland is black the professor of logic sasys atleast one side of one cown in ireland is black
but sthapathi has his own ways of putting things. last time he claimed he was in direct lineage of the sculptor who designed the tanjore big temple.
