THALIKKULATHAR
  • Dear SPS Sir,

If "Thali"cheri existed near RRswaram, then why not the "Thali"kulathar
temple could also be in the near vicinity?

Apart from this Sivaganga Tank Siva lingam, we have other nearby (Very close
vicinity) Shiva temples only in the West Street, but I think these are later
    period temples.

  • Dear all

I featured thalikkulathar temple quite extensively in Rajakesari. The temple in Tamil was known as Thaamaraik Kulathu Mahadevar. Sundara chola seems to have donated to this temple. Rajendra also donated to this temple.

Imagine a pond with all lotus flowers and a small temple in the middle. That must have been a Wonderful sight.
  • reposting earlier discussion dear venkat::

    Hi SPS
but the thiruvisaipa of tanjore calls the temple rajarajeshwaram
    10 times.
and we discussed before too. an ancient temple in kerala is called

  • Hi
-rajaraja must have been aware of thiruveezhmilalai incident.
he must have read the thiruviizhimilai devaram which mentions thanjai
it perhaps must have influenced him on the choice of location of big temple

did he build next to it or did he build on it?

  • Dear Venkat,

We have heard of ILANGOIL.. - Thirumeeyachur one.
    THIRUVARUR another.

Temple within a temple - with separate Moolavar (and subsequently - now Ambal !)

These form two separate temples. 2 Paadal petra sthalangal.

Likewise - THALI (temple - brick - obviously) in the midest of KULAM
    (tample) should have been Thalikkulam.

    ) have been THALIKULAM !?

That also explains the two pallava pillars inside the big temple complex. A couple of them might have been used as a POINTER TO PRESERVE the old structure !

And also Gokul is mention that this temple existed even after the big temple.

RRC should have built the big temple next to it.

    regards/ sps
