the originator of the idea was kalki himself. she wants to marry an emperor and the man she marries becomes the emperor.

And history seems to indicate recently, that Maduranthaka Uttama cholan was at the back of the assasination of Aditha karikalan, so it seems just a convenient story twist.. i wonder if there is HISTORICALLY any evidence of VT contribution to the Chola empire [ Also, sadly when i first read Vengaiyin Mainthan as it was being serialised in Kalki in 1959, Akilan so downplays VT and Kundavai as two old people , K being only in goodbye scenes, i had no idea how BIG they reallywere, till i read PS] > Dr Chandhru >

history has two sides sir. if you view from the other side didnt uthama solan have a better right to the chola throne? was'nt his right hijacked by sundara sola's family?
truly the deal to put him on the throne must have been a mission by the minor chieftans as portrayed by kalki to restore a sort of fairplay in the inheritance battle.
and if you perceive it in the right sense uthama's period ight have ben the golden period of hindu revivalism. sembian madevi and her son revived so many of the siva temples sung in the devaram.
kalki did not follow history in this story. he wrote a brilliant piece of fiction with real charecters.
