-Dear Gokul, After a long time ... You are opening a flood-gate.... When would have RR born .. When RR got married - first.. When was Rajendra born.. etc.
We, those who are interested in these matters, visited Udayarkudi - Kadambur - Viranam etc., about 5 years back. We also visited one Rajendra Chozhanagam..4 KM south east of Veeranam. Kadambur is about 7 km south west of Veeranam. In Veeranarayanaperumal temple, one can see a king garlanding another king - may be prince with his parivaras. (Samburavarayar Vs AK) This piece reminded me of Adithakarikalan's visit to Kadambur (as depicted by Kalki - he also should have been impressed by this piece. In PS, the story ends with ascendency of Uthama - 969 - 971. It is anybody's guess as to what Arulmozhi would have done in between 971 - 985. Some say he shared power with Uthama. No inscriptions to support. Absence of inscriptions can be interpreted to the effect that he stayed away from power centre. He shared power in 985 with Uthama. Udayarkudi's famous " Chakravarthy's Srimugam" line projects that RR became the absolute Power in Chola Empire... and Uthama elimiated - depatable ... So, we can postulate that Arulmozhi was stationed near Udayarkudi - searching for the reasons for AK's murder after 971. He would have - or pretended to have - renounced the desire to rule and adopted staunch following of Saivism with Nambiandar Nambi (His staying alive was more important after AK's murder) and found Thevarams(or added more - as per Kudavoil :: Thevarams were sung well in Pallavas period itself). He might have been married to Vanathi well before AK's murder - given birth to Rajendra atleast by then - and living around Rajendra Chozhanagam (There is one Moolasthanam village nearby - don't know why this name was given to this village)and zeroed on the murderers of AK - they were NOT ENEMIES BUT TRAITORS - Ravidasan - Parameswaran - Soman Sambavan & co., - and for lack of undisputable evidence, did not Kill them but confiscated their lands and sent them out of his Empire in 987. Most of his other marriages were political marriages. It may be possible that Rajendra and Kundavi would have been born to Vanathi.. If you read Kundavi + Vimaladithan pairs' pressure issues in establishing Western Chalukyas, the tolerance exhibited by Rajendra in installing and keeping this fellow (Vimaladithan) on the throne was exhorbidant. Naduvirpenn might have been born to some one else. No .. Rajendra never had a brother or half-brother .. Rajaraja would not have committed such a blunder .. for him Chola Prosperity is the Prime most priority and a rival to Rajendra would have been disastrous to this goal. Actually Rajendra made this mistake and the dynasty collapsed like the Indian First Innings tail in Melbourne. Fondly, SB
> Then it is also possible that AK was married at the > time of his assasination. But is any evidence for > this?
No evidence.
AK has given lot of nivanthams to many temples - calling himself "Veerapandiyan thalai konda Koopparakesari". It is with this title that historians are able to distinguish his records from Aditya the first. However we do not come across any ammani who calls herself the wife of aditya karikala. May be he might have been married as you rightly speculate - but no records AS SUCH. (Only a very small portion of the inscriptions available in temples have come to light... Dr.Kalaikkovan said there are 33000 ancient temples in tamilnadu alone - and we may have recorded inscriptions from less than half of them.. and less than half of the recorded inscriptions have been published so far !! May be aditya's wife is hiding somewhere in the unpublished or unrecorded inscription !!)
