Dr. Kalaikkovan personally visits every temple where some consecration ceremony is planned - including GKC & Udayarkudi - which are undergoing renovations presently - and advise the local body chief, engineers, workmen and priests to preserve inscriptions and other things which are of importance .. Same is being done by Kudavoil, Dr. Thiagarajan & other Historians... Dr. Iyravatham has specifically thanked in Tamil-Brahmi Book a PWD Contractor (Gajendran) for having paid attention to such details . Myself & Kamal attended the Book release function and met the Contractor himself...
Such things are kind of Silent Movements .. we should raise public opinion on such things ..
But Pavithra has answered this... Kalki paved way for such awareness.. We, in the 20th/21st Century are more aware of our History and Heritage than the Tamils of (may be) 17th / 19th Century ..who (may be) could not stand upright due to foreign invasion for more than 4 centuries....
Whenever I see a prominant temple, I used to think one thing.:
How did it look like in the 10th or 11th Century.? May be with the sanctum alone..! Then who built the Grand entrance and other huge portions ... Mostly Nayaks of Krishna Deva Raya following... When? After Muslim invasions! They did not confine themselves to Andhra .. They renovated the Entire DECCAN... Very Great Service .. I do not know whether we have given Him / Them the deserving place in History and in our Hearts?!
But, as Pavithra says, the Heritage will withstand .. but we also should not leave it like that .. our humble contributions .. even by spreading through mails .. will be worth the thought..
Have you noticed, Pandyas who destroyed the entire Chola Kingdom in the 13th Century, contributed to Peruvudayar of Rajarajeswaram!
As Anna says, Matran Thottathu Malligai .. ?! Really we have a grand heritage .. Proud to belong .... Thanks Doctor for your Care..

There is more to it. Narasimhavarma Pallava who destroyed vatapi almost completely left even the tiniest of sculptures in tact - I saw it with my own eyes in badami. Almost all the sculptures and temples of chalukyas have been preserved to the finest detail.
Pandiyas gave endowments to chola temples even when the enimity was at its peak ! and vice versa... there are many instances in inscriptions where the cholas continue the prior endowments of pallavas and so on..
Cholas - when they conquered srilanka - gave endowments to many of the buddist establishments there. I am not prepared to believe the picture painted by mahavamsa kind of literatures. Epigraphs speak agaist them.
It is beyond all concievable doubts that the tamil land rulers kept their personal enimity away when it came to social causes...
But later on the portuguese...the islamic rulers.... the present day politicians...
Your pleadings reached the ears of Kanadukathan Chettiars - it seems. In today's The Hindu there is a news item: Sivaganga to preserve the heritage homes. Pls. find time to read.
Let us give more thoughts to this movement : PRESERVE HERITAGE.
