I am Satish Kumar, working in a software company in chennai. I joined this group only today and feeling happy to be in a such a good large group.
I alwasy used to cherish the rich and varied culture of India, its literature, its reliong, the philosophy, arts, architecture etc etc etc. Though I never thought about literature earlier, in the recent past I started looking towards literature. I always used to admire the magnificient temples of Tamil Nadu and feel that no one else in the world can match Tamil's and Tamil Nadu. One such example is the tanjai periya koil.
As you all are, I too was dumbfolded when i read PS four years back. Though late, I didnt miss reading that great epic by Kalki. So naturally I am a ardent fan of Arulmozhi varman and accidentally slipped upon this group and ps-varalaaru. I was thrilled to note that these groups are run by the same great people who run www.varallaru.com. I have been reading varalaaru right from its inception and have given my suggestions there as well.So thought will join this group and enlighten myself and so here I am ..
As soon as I entered, I saw that a heated debate is going on here. Is tamil really dying? To some extent no and to a large extent yes. I think already many people have given there comments and I dont want to go on this further..but like to share some of my thoughts.
I have seen that Tamilians are the only people who feel ashamed to talk in their mother tounge. Yes though bitter its a fact. when two hindi people meet, they talk only in hindi, when two telugu people meet they talk in telugu, and so on. But when two tamil people meet, they talk in English. I have seen this everywhere, be it in Tamil Nadu, or out side tamil Nadu or outside India..I used to admire the Hindi speaking community, because when they speak they never utter even a single english word in between, however ultramodern they be. but when tamlians speak, we use 50% of english words in our sentences. (I wish to write this in tamil using tscii(murasu anjal) but am not sure whether tscii is used by all in this group and hence writing in english). As noted by other friends out there, the movies and tv channels are spoling the language to the maximum extent possible. Tamil Literature is seldom read. I am not sure how many of the present generation, leave alone the future, have heard about not kamba ramayanam, atleast PS...
The list goes on and already its discussed enough in this group. But I should say that there is a wave started in a small way which is determined to spread the fragrance of Tamil. Our group is the best example as I feel 500 people can surely make a difference. There are great people who have dedicated themselves for tamil. There are several yahoogroups which discuss tamil. Marathadi, rayarkapiklub, marabilakkiyam etc. Do visit www.harimozhi.com which is tip of a iceberg. Mr. Harikrishnan is one of those who has dedicated himself for tamil and this site was developed by his fans. if you search the web there are several resources available on tamil literature. Thanks to the internet, which has brought thousands of minds across to globe to share their feelings. Internet has surely paved the way for this wave..
So I like to stress upon the fact that instead of complaining, lets make the difference. If we cant change others, atleast let us change and enrich ourselves.
vazhga tamil!!! vazhga tamil nadu!!! vazhga baratham!!!
So the discussion is in Tamil..infact my PDirector makes fun of this and tells the other Indians on the rotation guys you need to learn tamil because this is the second language od west midlands
