Kadaram Konda or Kadaram thunjiya Cholan
  • Dear SPS
but I thought the general feeling was he was killed in the battle in Koppam?
thats another thing i wanted to raise but you went ahead of me...

Though its interesting to believe Rajendra died in Kadaram...it doesnt make sense really does it?
Because the chola tradition is to name people on where they have died
    like
    Ponmaligai thunjiya thevar:Sundara chola
    Yanaimel thunjiyathevar:rajathithan
    Merkeruntharuliaya thevar: Kandirathithan

If that is the case Rajendran would have been called Kadaram thunjiya thevar

Second its hard to believe that the king will leave the country for a foriegn campaign in the presence of enemies south west and north
those days a sea voyage would have been a good few months and a campaign would have meant a few years?

    What do you all think?
  • I guess,Rajadhiraja Cholan, the Son of Rajendhra was Killed in Battle of Koppam.

And you are correct, he would have been Kadaaram Thunjiya Rajendhra Chola Devar, and not Kadaaram Kondan, if he was not alive, after the war.

It has been written earlier, that, the Greatest King, was at Gangaikonda Chola puram, during these wars. He has sent, Arayanraajaraajan, for his Ganges expenditions. And from book, Vengayin Mainthan, it is Ilankumaran, for his Kadaaram, expendition.

    Rajendhra Cholan.
  • Dear Rajendhra Cholan ,According to Vengaiyin Maindhan Rajendra was in Thanjavur and was building GKC

It has been written earlier, that, the Greatest King, was at Gangaikonda Chola puram, during these wars. He has sent, Arayanraajaraajan, for his Ganges expenditions.

And from book, Vengayin Mainthan, it is Ilango the kodumbalur Ilavarasan not Ilangumaran, for his Kadaaram, expendition.

    Rajendhra Cholan.
  • Dear all,

ArayanRaajaRajan was a living character upto my belief but how about
    Ilango or Ilangumaran ?

Was he a fictitious character developed by Akilan or an existed man ?

If he was an living character, pls provide the details about him like
how he was related to Rajendra and his triumps, victories etc..

FYI...I have not read Vengaiyin Maindhan yet. But, as per "Mannan
Magal" by Sandilyan, Rajendra sends one guy who belongs to his own
family but a different branch from RR. But, ofcourse it is fictitious,
which Sandilyan accepts himself in the Munnurai.

So, who actually went to Kadaram initially, representing Rajendra ??
  • Yes, you are correct on both.

    1. He was at Thanjavoor and not in Gangai Konda Chozha Puram.

    2. And, It was, Ilgango and not Ilangumaran, I got confused with 'Manipallavam'.

    My sincere apologies..
  • A good thread SPS. My doubt is, if RR and RJ have put everything(I
assume most of the major things) in blak and white in their
kalvettus, wouldnt RJ have put a kalvettu about RR's death or wouldnt
RR put a kalvettu on uthama's death?

I remember Dr.Balu saying that he has almost narrowed down on the
pallipadai of RR, but its very difficult to bring it out in public
which he is trying to do. Its difficult becuase, those places might
be private properties which the owners will not reveal fearing govt.
    taking over their property.
If Dr.Balu is successful, we have a great time to celebrate.

Howdy, Stranger!
